Pretty good value

Keeping in mind that a Canon brand 500mm lens costs well over $1000, this is a pretty good value. It's very small and pretty light, and has an impressive build quality. It feels quite solid, and works reliably. Since this is a mirror lens, and fixed F8, it does not gather as much light, and thus is mainly useful in bright outdoor conditions. I took some pretty great moon photos with it though.
Uh,,What did I buy from 47th St. via Amazon?

I just opened my package from 47th St. Photo. This is NOT a 500-1000mm lens. It is a 500mm lens with a 2x converter, which, of course, will make it an f16.0 fixed aperture lens rather than an f8.0. There are no instructions with it; so, I assume that I will need to use my DSLR Rebel at the aperture-preferred setting. I'll try it tomorrow and let you know about picture quality. I'm not too concerned about that issue because I expect it to function as an inexpensive lens. I will use it when I follow the old adage: "If you want a picture, take it!" BTW, what are ND 2x and ND 4x filters? Notre Dame recruits?
Well, I'm a bit late with this addition to my review. BUT, I took several pictures with this lens and was very happy with them. I fiddled with different shutter speeds and ND filters and got good results each time. I Picasaed them as needed, as I do with pics from my expensive Canon lens. I took all my pics hand-held. Some worked, some were blurry--no surprise. I'm very pleased with the purchase.
Very Poor Quality

You really do get what you pay for. the quality of the pictures its tries to take is of very poor quality. to this day I have not had one good picture of any clarity that is good enough to keep . I would not reccommend this product.
POS

Reviewer: Stuart Bennett,
Don't waste your money dreaming. Get the regular Sony 500 mm reflector which is rated 5 stars and uses the autofocus and stabilization on the camera. This thing is a waste of material that it is made of. It does bring an object in close but the quality of the image is about equal to a POS TASCO telescope.
